Since 1999, Legion has been researching pedestrian behaviour in the world's busiest stations, stadia and streets. Our measurement team has amassed expertise; devised and built bespoke electronic equipment for the swift and accurate gathering of data; and even designed and developed custom video analysis software, called 'Zeus'.

We collect video footage and then classify it, archive it, and correct it. We then analyse them frame by frame, to study and record patterns of real-world pedestrian movement. The painstaking accuracy with which this footage is analysed is unrivalled.

While we sometimes film volunteers, our speciality is unpublicised measurement campaigns in public places under normal, busy conditions. These campaigns observe all pertinent health and safety regulations, ensuring that filming sessions are genuinely unpublicised and guaranteeing that the right metrics are collected to the right degree of accuracy.

Inevitably, this technique is costly in terms of both time and investment. However, the accuracy of the results is unparalleled and the wealth of auditable, repeatable, usable analyses far outshines measurements taken by manual clickers, infrared detection or automated image processing.

In situations where accuracy and auditability are essential, Legion's technique is the only solution available world-wide. It has been used in measurement campaigns for New York City Transit, Crossrail, London Fire Brigade, Transport for London, and the East London Line Project.

With the ability to film from up to 40 different points within a location, we can cover large or challenging areas and secure data that no other method can. If you have an interesting challenge that you would like Legion to help you with, please contact info@legion.com.
